Postecoglou’s Celtic clinch Scottish Premiership title

2022-05-12T07:22+10:00

Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic have clinched the Scottish Premiership title with a game to spare.

A 1-1 draw against Dundee United at Tannadice Park was enough for Celtic to claim the title in Postecoglou’s first season in charge at Parkhead.

The Hoops lost three of their first six league games of the campaign but have since gone on a 31-game unbeaten run.

Postecoglou has successfully transformed the Scottish giants after they finished 25 points behind bitter rivals Rangers last season.

“It’s pretty special, mate. It’s probably the first time this year I’m lost for words,” the former Socceroos coach told Sky Sports post-game.

“It’s just an enormous effort. Really proud of the players, the staff, our supporters, everyone involved.

“Nobody gave us much of a chance. To do what they’ve done and achieve the ultimate is an unbelievable effort. It’s massive.

“The fans had a tough year last year, not just the fact that we didn’t win anything, but they couldn’t do this, they couldn’t come and support their team.

“I’m just really proud of this group of players, they’ve been unbelievable this year.”

Postecoglou and Celtic will be presented with the trophy on Saturday, May 14 after their final home game of the season against Motherwell.

Celtic’s title win has also secured them a spot in next season’s Champions League.
