Postecoglou’s Celtic edge closer to title after pulsating derby draw

2022-05-02T07:28+10:00

Celtic have edged closer to winning the Scottish Premier League title after playing out a pulsating 1-1 draw against rivals Rangers at Parkhead on Sunday.

Fashion Sakala’s equaliser in the 67th minute cancelled out Jota’s first-half opener as the Gers were unable to find a winner late on.

Ange Postecoglou’s side require just one more win to clinch the title having extended their unbeaten league run to 29 games.

With three league games remaining, Celtic sits six points clear of Rangers and have a superior goal difference of +19.

“It was pretty intense, as you’d expect with so much on the line. We got our noses in front then had our best opportunities to kill the game off,” Postecoglou said post-game.

“We didn’t take them and Rangers, to their credit, hung in there. They’re a good side and we had to hold on at the end to get at least the draw we needed.

“We knew if we didn’t win today, we were still in a good position. A draw leaves us in a really good position.”

Celtic can be crowned champions of Scotland for the 52nd time if they beat Hearts at home on Saturday.

The Hoops finished 25 points behind reigning champions Rangers last season.
