Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has revealed his side was hit with tragic news heading into their clash against Adelaide in Ballarat.
Speaking to the media after his side fell short of the Crows by one point on Saturday, Beveridge disclosed that Mitch Wallis’ mother-in-law had passed away on Thursday after being struck by a car last weekend.
"It has been a challenging week for the group, for the club," Beveridge said.
"It has been a really traumatic week for the families, and obviously your football club is like a second home, a second family, and everyone feels that and is really emotional around what is happening with Mitch and (Wallis' wife) Emily and their families.
"We are just hoping everything goes smoothly over the next week or so with Emily and the imminent birth of their child."
On top of this horrific news, Beveridge said development coach and former Geelong star Travis Varcoe’s mother also died in the last week.
Adding to the distressing times this week at the club, vice-captain Lachie Hunter has stepped away indefinitely for personal reasons.
As such, the Bulldogs will be looking to put this week behind them and secure their third win against the struggling Bombers at Marvel Stadium next Sunday.
