Max King has been hugely influential in St Kilda’s wins this season.
The emerging forward has kicked two four-goal hauls in as many weeks, spearheading his side to victories over Fremantle and Richmond.
The 202cm youngster is a powering presence inside forward 50 and Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton has seen firsthand King’s athletic prowess.
“When I did a little bit of work down there (at St Kilda) three seasons ago now just with bag on him … I’ve never seen the ball marked higher off the ground off a two or three step run up – insane,” Brereton told SEN’s The Run Home.
“That is something that genetically people just can’t deal with.
“The great players of our game – nine out of 10 of them have a physical difference that sets them aside from the rest of the pack – he’s got that difference.
“He’s got a launch and he’s incredibly long, he can mark the ball high off the ground.
“Do I feel like he can do that for four quarters? Probably not just yet. He mightn’t have to do it for four quarters … a run of 20 or 30 minutes might separate a game.”
King is equal second in the Coleman Medal after three rounds and will look to add to his goal tally when the Saints clash with Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday.
The 21-year-old is ranked equal first for contested marks and second for total marks inside 50 across the competition.
