Why Max King still has “more work to go” according to Ratten

2022-04-05T13:27+10:00

St Kilda coach Brett Ratten says Max King still has plenty of development to come in an ominous sign for the rest of the competition.

King has torn apart two seperate games this season, kicking nine goals so far in 2022.

The 21-year-old has progressed further this year, if his showing over the first three weeks of the season is anything to go by.

Ratten said the onus was on the likes of fellow forwards Tim Membrey and Rowan Marshall to support King as he continues to build his career.

“Max (King) is still developing but has the capabilities of changing games as we saw on the weekend,” he said on Sportsday.

“He is a serious player but he still has some work to do and he’s working extremely hard.

“He is talented but you’re only as good as your supply as a forward and you need to good supply and kicks to advantage.

“With (Tim) Membrey and (Rowan) Marshall down there, they really compliment each other and that’s what makes a good forward.

“Our blokes do get drawn kicking to him considering he’s 204cm and such a big man, that’s why it’s great for us to have Marshall down there as he does attract the eyes of our kickers as well.

“Max is such a talent and still developing, but going very well.”

St Kilda will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they take on Hawthorn next Sunday at the MCG.
