The Sandringham Zebras responded dominantly after their 83-point loss to the Casey Demons in Round 1 to record a resounding 94-40 win against Richmond at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
The Saints affiliated side was led well by Marcus Windhager (one goal, 28 disposals), Ryan Byrnes (one goal, 23 disposals), Leo Connolly (22 disposals, five tackles) and Jack Bytel (19 disposals, four tackles) who dominated the midfield battle in challenging wet conditions.
Mitch Owens started the game hot kicking two goals in the first quarter and finished with 19 disposals.
In defence, Darragh Joyce (19 disposals, six marks) came off his AFL appearance last week and was crucial alongside Tom Highmore (12 disposals, four marks) as the Zebras kept the Tigers to just 40 points.
Tom Campbell was instrumental in the ruck collecting 40 hitouts as well as two goals and 16 disposals, proving he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
For the Tigers, Tyler Sonsie (one goal, 29 disposals) was the clear shining light and will be pressing hard for his debut at the AFL level.
Rhyan Mansell (21 disposals, eight marks) and Riley Collier-Dawkins (21 disposals, four tackles) were some of the only Tigers players who could hold their heads up on what was a day to forget for the Round 1 winners.
For Richmond, Tiger Judson Clark twisted his ankle late in the game in a tackle from Jack Peris and limped off the ground.
For St Kilda, Cooper Sharman (cork) and Jarryn Geary (concussion protocols) both copped injuries and were removed from the game at the half and will be hoping their injuries won’t delay their push to return to the senior side.
Box Hill Hawks will face Carlton in the last game of VFL for Round 2.
