Gold Coast booted three goals in the last five minutes of their VFL clash with the Swans on Friday night to down Sydney by two points.
The 103-101 win was particularly down to Suns youngster Malcolm Rosas, who kicked the last two goals of the game and will look to add to the three AFL games he played in 2021.
Two recruits also impressed for Gold Coast, James Tsitas and Charlie Constable combining for 45 disposals and 23 tackles to drag the Suns over the line with their midfield work.
Those two appear to be fighting for the AFL spot currently held by Alex Davies, but did their chances of an early club debut no harm in the performance.
Top-10 draft pick Elijah Hollands is also staking his claim for an AFL birth after missing all of 2021 with a knee injury, backing up last week’s strong performance with 22 disposals.
Sam Day kicked four goals to put pressure on Levi Casboult and Mabior Chol to perform at the top level.
For the Swans, dropped forward Logan McDonald responded well to his AFL axing in the clash, the pick four from the 2020 draft kicking four goals and racking up 17 disposals.
Ryan Clarke continued his strong run of VFL form with 33 disposals while last week’s AFL medical substitute, Angus Sheldrick, collected 23 disposals in the loss.
Six VFL games will be played on Saturday afternoon, complimenting the two AFLW Preliminary Finals.
