Football Australia is considering sacking Socceroos coach Graham Arnold, reports The Age.
Australia is in danger of missing the 2022 World Cup after being consigned to the playoffs following Thursday night’s 2-0 loss to Japan in Sydney.
The Socceroos under Arnold have been largely underwhelming throughout the second phase of Asian qualifying, dropping crucial points against China and Oman to ultimately miss out on direct qualification.
Australia must now win two do-or-die playoff ties against Asia’s other third-place team and the fifth-best side in South America to reach a fifth consecutive World Cup.
According to The Age, Arnold could be dismissed as early as next week as the FA look to revive Australia’s faltering campaign.
The 58-year-old took over as head coach of the Socceroos after the 2018 World Cup.
