Star jockey Ben Melham has broken both his shoulder blade and collarbone following a fall at Morphettville on Cup day.
Riding Set The Sails in the final race, Melham fell off his mount after the winning post and was quickly attended to by paramedics.
The 34-year-old has been in scintillating form since his return from suspension, riding 12 winners and six minor placings from 37 rides.
Barend Vorster, who was aboard Water Over Wine in the same race, fell from his mount after the line in the incident, but walked away with no major issues.
Melham spent five months on the sidelines from late 2020 for a betting ban as well as three months out of the saddle over the spring for breaching COVID protocols.
He is expected to be sidelined for another lengthy spell with this latest mishap.
Disappointing to find out I have a Broken Shoulder blade and broken collarbone. Thanks for all messages!
