Richmond great Matthew Richardson has explained why he decided to relinquish his position on the All-Australian selection committee.
Having been an All-Australian selector since 2014, Richardson felt the time was right for a new voice to join the committee.
Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes has replaced Richardson on the All-Australian selection committee for 2022.
The Tigers icon revealed that he was asked to stay on as a selector for the upcoming season.
“The offer was there to still be an All-Australian selector,” Richardson told Sportsday.
“But I think that it should be rolled over like the presidency at Hawthorn or at Richmond, it should be eight years, I reckon that’s the most you should be involved in it.
“It’s a tough job, but I think you need fresh faces.
“I could’ve done it again this year, but I think that it should be rolled over and get some fresh voices and ideas in there.”
Richardson, Gillon McLachlan (chair), Kevin Bartlett, Jude Bolton, Steve Hocking, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Nick Riewoldt and Warren Tredrea made up last year’s selection panel.
