Two suspended big screens at either end of Marvel Stadium will greet footy fans from Round 1 next month.
The AFL and Victorian Government today detailed the $225 million facelift of the Docklands stadium, with Gillon McLachlan describing the new scoreboards as “the sexiest things you can imagine”.
Town Square and City Edge will also become part of the vocabulary in the future, with Marvel Stadium’s two new plazas enhancing the arrival experience.
Town Square, located outside gates 1-3, will provide “an all-weather space” as an atrium amenities hub, while City Edge on the eastern side will bring together ticketing, merchandise and food and beverage outlets.
There will also be more bar and dining options within the stadium, along with a sensory and multi-faith room.
Team changerooms will also get an overhaul with dedicated women’s facilities. But it’s the big screen scoreboards and new themed lighting that will most enhance the viewing experience for fans.
“Our vision is to make this stadium among the most technologically-advanced facilities,” McLachlan said.
“This is a pumping, vibrant world-class city and Marvel Stadium plays its role in that. This is a great asset for sport and entertainment as we bring this city back to life.
“I’m excited. People in this town, you can feel it moving forward.”
