NBL champions Melbourne United make official move to Hoop City

2022-02-24T09:55+11:00

Melbourne United has made its move to Hoop City Cheltenham official.

The reigning NBL champions have now fully settled in to the new elite basketball facility having slowly made it their home since 2021.

United, who own a 50% stake in Hoop City, will now make it their permanent base after shifting multiple times since the club’s rebrand in 2014.

“We are so proud and excited to officially become a 50% owner of the Hoop City Cheltenham franchise,” United CEO Nick Truelson said.

“We believe we now have the best training facility in the NBL and see it as a competitive advantage moving forward as we look to attract and retain the best basketball talent across the league.

“Hoop City Cheltenham isn’t just a training facility, it is also our new home for the entire club across players, coaches and staff. It is also home to the local community and with 21,000 registered basketball players within a 10km radius in the Bayside area.

“We have a wonderful opportunity to engage with the broader basketball community and help play our part in taking basketball to the next level in Victoria.

“We hope that this is just our first foray in an ownership stake in a Hoop City franchise in Victoria with other opportunities to open up down the track.”

United’s title defence is so far going to plan as they sit on top of the NBL standings with a 11-4 win-loss record.

They next meet the Taipans in Cairns on Sunday afternoon.

Hoop City is open seven days a week to the public via bookings, and offers a range of services such as private, group and team training sessions, birthday parties, corporate events and school sessions.
