10 horses locked in for $5m All-Star Mile

2022-02-17T08:10+11:00

10 gallopers have been locked in for the 2022 All-Star Mile.

15 runners will compete for the world’s richest mile race at Flemington on March 19, with several stars of the sport set to battle it out.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup champion Verry Elleegant polled the most votes in front of I’m Thunderstruck, Zaaki and Regalo Di Gaetano.

With the ten runners all but locked in on Tuesday night, the sudden retirement of Probabeel forced a late minute scramble from Racing Victoria, resulting in King Magnus securing a slot in the $5m feature.

15 horses will fill the final field with five gallopers set to receive wildcard selections including the winners of the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (26 February) and the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (March 5).

A total of 134,081 votes were received for the 78 horses nominated for the All-Star Mile which was a significant drop on last year’s 147,830 record.
