Pakistan paceman banned from bowling after copping BBL sledge

2022-02-04T17:44+11:00

Pakistan paceman Mohammad Hasnain has been banned from bowling after his action was deemed to be illegal.

Hasnain was reported by umpire Gerard Abood when bowling for the Sydney Thunder in the BBL on January 2 and underwent biomechanical testing in Lahore.

Further suspicions were raised about the 21-year-old’s action after an on-field sledge from Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques was picked up on the stump mic.

Henriques said to Hasnain “nice throw mate” during the Sydney Smash on January 15.

“The PCB today received a formal and detailed report from Cricket Australia on Mohammad Hasnain's assessment test, which stated his elbow extension for his good length delivery, full length delivery, slow bouncer and bouncer exceeded the 15-degree limits,” the PCB said in a statement.

“The PCB has discussed the report with its own bowling experts and is confident that the problem can be resolved.

“The PCB will now appoint a bowling consultant who will work with Mohammad Hasnain so that he can rectify his bowling action and be ready for a reassessment.”

Hasnain won’t be available for Pakistan’s home series against Australia next month and has been suspended from bowling in the Pakistan Super League.
