You don’t see too many 30-year-old rookies in the BBL, but we couldn’t let Lachlan Pfeffer’s introduction to the league go under the radar.
Pfeffer was part of the local replacement pool of players and received his chance playing four games for the Brisbane Heat through January.
Falling cheaply in his first match against the Melbourne Renegades, Pfeffer – a school teacher by trade – then provided one of the feel-good moments of BBL|11 when knocking a half-century against the Hurricanes.
He finished with 69 off 51 in that clash, including three sixes.
Promoted up the order to No. 3 for the next game, he was unlucky to be run out for 23 against the Adelaide Strikers, before making 11 when dismissed by Glenn Maxwell playing the Melbourne Stars.
Pfeffer is the Queensland Bulls’ backup keeper in the Sheffield Shield but has had limited opportunity due to the form of Jimmy Peirson.
However, his impressive BBL performances will keep him in at the forefront of selectors' minds going forward.
Lachlan Pfeffer is the MEGT Australia BBL rookie of the week.
