Nathan Buckley remains cynical about the AFL media landscape, but is ready to fully dive into the caper in 2022, hoping to bring a different perspective.
Buckley will be a big part of SEN in 2022, featuring every Monday with Garry Lyon on SEN Breakfast, as well as with Gerard Whateley on Tuesdays.
After a decade as head coach of Collingwood, the AFL great stepped away from the position in the middle of 2021.
Speaking exclusively with Gerard Whateley on SEN, Buckley outlined his goals and points of emphasis in the footy media in 2022.
“I do hold a fair bit of cynicism on where journalism has moved to and how the media landscape informs individuals of what’s going on in a sporting sense,” Buckley said.
“I think sometimes we go for headlines a little too much – or a lot too much – and I don’t think that we tell the full story, I think that we give it a very surface level view of what might be going on because I think that it engages more people.
“I think we need to try and go a little bit deeper, a little bit wider and come at it from different angles and see if we can paint a better picture for people rather than just the headline.
“I’d like to think that I can be a part of that and that I can provide a little bit more context for people and some insight potentially and prosecute the headline a little bit more and see where we get to.”
SEN Breakfast with Garry and Bucks commences February 28th and will be heard Mondays 6am-9am AEST across the footy season.
Garry and Tim Watson will still be together Tuesdays through Thursdays, with David King and Kane Cornes hosting breakfast together on Fridays.
