Pucovski “pretty excited” to return to grade cricket on Saturday

Will Pucovski is expecting to make his long-awaited return to cricket this weekend.

The talented Victorian made his Test debut at the beginning of last year, impressing against India when opening the batting and scoring a fifty in his first knock.

His first match had originally been delayed due to concussion issues, however it was a shoulder injury that ruled him out of the last test of that series.

There was considerable excitement for Pucovski to return to the Test side for the current Ashes series, however, what is believed to be his 10th concussion in October sidelined the 23-year-old indefinitely.

But in a bit of good news for fans of the flourishing right-hander, Pucovski is expecting to play grade cricket in the coming days.

“I’m playing this Saturday, assuming I can avoid coronavirus which seems to be around every corner in Melbourne at the moment,” he told SEN on Monday.

“So, I’m doing my best to stay out of the way of that.

“For the first time in a while I’m actually pretty excited to play grade cricket again, to be honest, it’s been nearly a year to the day since I’ve actually played a game, so I am starting to miss it quite a bit.

“I’m sort of trying to go one step at a time, play a bit of club cricket, play a bit of state cricket and then we’ll see what happens.”

The youngster also stated his plan was to be on the plane for the Pakistan tour in March and April, but expressed it was very early in his return to cricket.

Pucovski’s local team is the Melbourne Cricket Club.
