Novak Djokovic is unlikely to compete in the ATP Cup, casting further doubt over his likelihood of featuring in the Australian Open.
The ATP Cup is a team event beginning in early January in Sydney that leads into the Australian Open, with the world number one on the list of ‘confirmed’ attendees when the draw dropped earlier in December.
However, those plans now appear to have changed, according to Serbian newspaper Blic.
“It is 99 per cent sure that Novak won't go to the ATP Cup. He is training here (in Belgrade) but he has decided to give that tournament a miss,” an unnamed member of his team reportedly told the newspaper.
Djokovic has repeatedly refused to confirm his vaccination status, placing doubt on his spot in the Australian Open.
However, the 34-year-old is on the main draw list for the first major of 2022.
The 2022 Australian Open begins on January 17, with Djokovic gunning for a record 21st Grand Slam to put him above fellow champions Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
