A positive COVID case has caused issues behind the scenes at the Adelaide Oval, with the ABC and BBC boxes eerily empty on day four of the Ashes Test.
The radio broadcasters, who have interchanging callers, were asked not to come to the ground after the confirmed case in the BBC team.
This also impacted both television broadcasts, with Fox Cricket’s Isa Guha and Channel Seven’s Glenn McGrath members of the BBC call.
Guha returned to the broadcast in the afternoon after receiving clearance from SA Health, per the Sydney Morning Herald.
Statements released by the Adelaide Oval on Sunday confirmed they were dealing with two cases.
“We have been made aware of a second member of the visiting media who has returned a positive COVID result as part of the scheduled day six testing.”
“This individual was working in the media centre in the western stand. He has not attended the ground today and neither have his close contacts. We are undertaking a clean of the relevant media area in-line with our protocols. SA Health have been advised.”
As the Australian Test captain Pat Cummins found out, close contacts of a positive case must isolate for seven days in South Australia.
The Aussies are in full control of the second Test, with England 4/82 heading into day five, needing 386 runs to win.
