Vince backs Sixers star Philippe for all three formats

2021-12-14T13:14+11:00

Sydney Sixers star James Vince believes his opening partner Josh Philippe can play in all three formats of cricket for Australia.

The 30-year-old Englishman joined the Sixers midway through BBL|08 and was an integral member of the Sixers BBL|10 title last season.

Vince and Philippe have formed one of the most dangerous opening partnerships in the history of the Big Bash and Vince believes the secret to the pair’s success is doing the basics right.

“Since we’ve opened the batting together, we’ve found a different partnership,” Vince said on 1170 SEN Mornings.

“We enjoy batting together. He’s in unbelievable form at the minute.

“In fact, every time I’ve been here, he’s never seemed out of form.”

Despite being just 24 years of age, Philippe has already represented Australia in three ODIs and 10 T20s.

Whilst he lost his spot in the eventual World Cup winning T20 squad, Vince predicts Philippe will be a regular in years to come.

“He’s definitely got all it takes to get himself in that team (Australia) and stay there,” he added.

“'Flip' (Philippe) has played a bit on some tough pitches and maybe didn’t have the best crack at it.

“If he keeps up this form, when he gets another opportunity, he’ll take it for sure.

“He’ll definitely add value to that Australian team in the future.”

Philippe is already the second highest run scorer (160 runs) behind Sixers captain Moises Henriques (175) and has impressed with his work behind the stumps as keeper as well.

Vince is adamant that Philippe is the perfect package.

“He’s got all the attributes and he’s a class player,” Vince said.

The Sixers take on the Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Wednesday.
