Mitch Marsh’s strong run with the bat continued on Tuesday night courtesy of a devastating knock for the Perth Scorchers.
Australia’s T20 World Cup hero hammered an unbeaten century from 60 balls with six fours and five sixes as the Scorchers beat the Hurricanes by 53 runs in Hobart.
It wasn’t all free-flowing for Marsh’s side as wickets fell all around him, but he kept a steady head and guided the team to a defendable total of 5/182 in his first BBL apearance of the season.
The even 100 was Marsh’s maiden century in the BBL.
It was the second ton in the competition this season, following on from his Scorchers teammate Colin Munro who powered 114 not out (73 balls) against the Adelaide Strikers last weekend.

Providing support with the bat was Laurie Evans who chimed in with 40 from 24 balls.
In response, the Hurricanes struggled to be all out for 129.
It was always going to be a battle after they lost captain Matthew Wade and Caleb Jewell cheaply.
Ben McDermott struck 41 from 29 balls and D’Arcy Short made 31, but it was hard going for the home side.
One local was on the receiving end of one of McDermott’s three sixes, dropping the catch and copping a ball to the head which drew blood.

Former Hurricane Tymal Mills was the pick of the Scorchers bowlers with figures of 3/23 on debut for his new BBL club.
The Scorchers’ all-time leading wicket taker, Andrew Tye, took two scalps to become just the fourth player in BBL history to reach 100 wickets.
Perth are now the only undefeated side remaining in the composition with a clean 3-0 record.
They next play on Monday, December 20 against the 1-2 ‘Canes in Perth.
