Hobart is set to be awarded the fifth Ashes Test, beating rival bids from Melbourne and Sydney.
According to Newscorp, it’s a done deal for Hobart to host the series finale with a formal announcement expected this weekend.
It means the fifth and final Test between Australia and England will be a day-nighter under lights at Bellerive Oval.
Premier Minster Scott Morrison sided with Hobart’s bid to host a first Test match since 2016.

“I’m in the Tassie camp. I think it will be great to see Tasmania share in this Ashes series,” Morrison told reporters.
“For there to be one in Tassie, I think would be great. Particularly as there was the Afghanistan Test, which obviously didn’t proceed for clear reasons.
“I know they’ll put on a great show. That’s a matter for Cricket Australia, but a Prime Minister’s allowed to have an opinion.”
The fifth Test starts on January 14.
