Warriors reward consistent performer with two-year extension

2021-12-03T13:15+11:00

The New Zealand Warriors have re-signed hooker Wayde Egan to a two-year extension.

Egan, 24, has played 38 games for the Warriors since moving there at the start of the 2020 season from the Panthers.

With his new contract set to see him through until the end of the 2024 campaign, general manager of football Craig Hodges said the club was excited to lock in such a consistent performer.

“We’re really excited to have Wayde with us for a further two years,” said Hodges via a club statement.

“He impressed throughout the season giving us real consistency with his work at hooker.

“We like what he brings to the squad and to the club as a whole with his work ethic as well as his attitude off the field where he has a passion for community causes.”

Coach Nathan Brown has been impressed with Egan’s want to improve his game over the last two years.

“What’s really impressive about Wayde is the way he’s always looking to improve his game,” Brown said.

“He gave us tremendous value this year, performing consistently well and standing out as one of our best players across the season.”

Egan made a team high 818 tackles last season and notched eight try assists.

He’ll hope to help the Warriors improve in 2022 after they finished 12th in 2021 with just eight wins from 24 games.
