I’m Thunderstruck tipped to keep company with Black Caviar, Winx

2021-12-02T13:45+11:00

Group 1 winning gelding I’m Thunderstruck is set for a massive autumn campaign that will see him feature in some of Australia’s great races.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper is back in pre-training after a spring carnival that saw him rise as one of the country’s future stars.

The son of Shocking won the G1 Toorak Handicap before heading to Sydney and conquering the second richest race in the country, the Golden Eagle.

OTI Racing CEO Terry Henderson says he’ll be aimed to run first-up in the All Star Mile at Flemington on the 12th of March.

“He’s back in pre-training, obviously we’ll gradually build the horse now up to taking his place hopefully in the All Star," he said on SEN Track's Bensley.

“He’ll probably have one run before that and maybe two.”

Comparing I’m Thunderstruck to the likes of Black Caviar and Winx, Henderson feels a short prep is ideal for the lightly raced horse that will also be set for a big 2022 spring carnival.

“With these sorts of horses, we’ve learnt over the years with the likes of Peter Moody with Black Caviar and Chris Waller with Winx, these sorts of horses don’t need long preps,” he added.

“Three or four run preps seem to give them good longevity and I’m Thunderstruck falls into that category.

“He may only have three runs in the Autumn but obviously they’ll be three runs at a serious level, probably the All Star going into the Doncaster and hopefully he continues to progress and build on what he’s done.”

I'm Thunderstruck is currently rated a $7.50 in thr All Star Mile and $11 for the Doncaster Mile.
