Report: Selectors split on Ashes gloveman choice

2021-11-28T12:40+11:00

Australian selectors could side with an Ashes bolter as they begin the search for Tim Paine’s successor according to the Herald Sun.

While South Australian keeper Alex Carey has long been billed as the next in line for a baggy green, the report suggests one selector is backing West Australian Josh Inglis for the job.

A three-man panel of George Bailey, Justin Langer and Tony Dodemaide will make the decision on who Australian’s next gloveman is, with Inglis needing two of the three to side with him to get the job.

Inglis, 26, was born in the UK and only moved to Australia aged 14, making his potential debut in an Ashes series even more interesting.

The West Aussie recently jumped Carey in Australia’s T20 pecking order, with Inglis being included in the recent World Cup squad over the South Australian.

The pair were both included in the Australia A squad after Paine was initially named as the sole keeper in the Ashes squad.

The first Test begins at the Gabba on December 8.
