David King believes that Max King should’ve been taken with pick one in the 2018, instead of Carlton gun on-baller Sam Walsh.
Walsh has gone on to become one of the greatest number one picks in recent memory, having being named in the All-Australian team this year as well as winning Carlton’s best and fairest award.
While the young Blue has made a strong start at AFL level, King has been impressive as well playing in St Kilda’s forward line, kicking 60 goals from 38 career games so far after being taken with pick four in the same draft.
King said he would’ve made the now Saint forward 2018’s number one draft pick, purely because more midfielders are typically more available in drafts compared to key forwards.
“In that draft I would have taken Max King at pick one,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“He went at pick four … forwards are hard to find. Sam Darcy has come with a rush (this one) and they’re saying he could be bit on as high as pick two.
“It just shows (how highly rated forwards are) … where is he going to play for the Dogs? He could actually be a great centre half back, they don’t really have that intercept key defender.”
Max King’s twin brother Ben was also taken in 2018, heading to the Suns with pick six and has similarly impressed up forward.
