The AFL club draft prospect would prefer to join

2021-11-22T11:03+11:00

Blake Howes is one of several players out of the Sandringham Dragons in contention to go inside the top 30 picks in the upcoming National Draft.

According to AFL Media draft expert Cal Twomey, Howes is an athletic and versatile prospect who can play half-back, half-forward or on the wing.

The 190cm forward-midfielder grew up supporting St Kilda and said a move to Moorabbin would be his preferred destination.

With the Saints holding just one selection – currently pick No.9 - inside the top 55 in this year’s draft, it’s unlikely Howes will land at his boyhood club.

“For me, it goes back to the club I barracked for growing up - definitely the Saints,” Howes told SEN Breakfast.

“That would be the best dream ever to play for St Kilda. It looks a bit unlikely unfortunately.”

Howes was asked how many clubs he has spoken to in the lead up to the draft and which clubs have shown the most interest.

“I’ve spoken to all 18 clubs,” the Dragons talent said.

“They’ve all been good in their different ways, but it’s hard to get a grasp on which ones are more interested because they keep their cards close to their chest.”

Finn Callaghan, Josh Sinn, Campbell Chesser, Marcus Windhager and Mitchito Owens are other Dragons draft prospects hoping to have their names read out on either Wednesday or Thursday night.

The Saints will look to match bids for Academy prospects Windhager and Owens if they fall outside the top 20.
