England too good for Australia in T20 World Cup thrashing

2021-10-31T10:16+11:00

England has thrashed Australia in their T20 World Cup group clash in Dubai, winning by eight wickets with more than 50 balls to spare.

The final score read Australia, all out for 125, defeated by England, who made 2-126 from just 11.4 overs.

Star white-ball batter Jos Buttler stole the show for the winning side, smashing 71 not out from just 32 balls to cap off the resounding victory.

Having batted first, Australia’s top order never gave themselves a chance to assert their dominance on the game, losing David Warner for one, Steve Smith for one and Glenn Maxwell for six.

It was a wonder the Aussies even lasted the full 20 overs, with a late rally from the tail helping them see out their entire innings.

With a low total set, England’s batters went after the Australian attack, with Jason Roy (22) and Jonny Bairstow (16 not out) supporting Buttler.

Australia now sit third in Group 1, and will next face Bangladesh at 9pm on Thursday night (AEDT).
