Will Jase Burgoyne follow in his father’s footsteps and play for Port Adelaide?
The Power have father-son access to Burgoyne, who is the son of dual SANFL/AFL premiership player and 240-game Port champion, Peter Burgoyne.
Burgoyne averaged 15.7 disposals in three SANFL games for Woodville-West Torrens this season and was dominant at Under-18 level for the Eagles, averaging 28.8 touches and 3.3 clearances from eight appearances.
His uncle Shaun Burgoyne retired at the end of the 2021 season after playing 407 games for the Power and Hawthorn.
AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan says the talented South Australian youngster is good enough to be on an AFL list in 2022.
“I think that’s due, whether they (Port Adelaide) are going to nominate him (Burgoyne) as a father-son and be available for Port,” Sheehan told SEN SA’s Kymbo and The Rooch.
“I like the way he plays. He’s shown me enough that he’s an AFL listed player.
“He’s a smart mover, whether it’s at half-back and that’s where he mainly played this year, but he’s got that ability to slip past them, he kicks the ball at the elite level, he could play on the wing as well, I would think.
“He’s got that speed, class and poise to be an AFL player.
“His dad Peter of course is in the Indigenous Team of the Century. He was a wonderful player in his time and this boy has got a lot of those Burgoyne traits.
“And the uncle as well, Shaun, who was a superstar of the game as well.”
Burgoyne was one of 20 draft prospects from South Australia and the Northern Territory to take part in a recent AFL draft combine in Adelaide.
