Tralee Rose’s bid to get her way into the Melbourne Cup looks to be bearing fruit with the tenacious stayer wining Wednesday’s Geelong Cup.
Tralee Rose, trained by Symon Wilde, jumped the drifting $2.50 favourite and under the guidance of Dean Holland, edged out Dr Drill for Ciaron Maher & David Eustace.
The mare was on the 24th order of entry before the Geelong feature and with Wednesday’s win, plus a likely penalty, she looks to be a certain starter in the Melbourne Cup.
There are two Melbourne Cup ballot exemption races remaining – Saturday’s Cox Plate and the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington on 31 October.
Tralee Rose is currently rated a $13 chance in the Cup.
