Why Cotric could be perfect Ferguson replacement for Eels

2021-10-18T15:16+11:00

Canterbury utility Nic Cotric has been linked to a move to Parramatta after a poor first season with the Bulldogs.

Having moved to Belmore at the end of the 2020 season following four campaigns with Canberra, Cotric failed to live up the hype due to his hefty price-tag.

Despite having a down year where he only scored three tries, rugby league great Greg Alexander believes he could be a good fit for Parramatta if they play him in his preferred position.

“Nic Cotric is a much better winger than he is a centre,” Alexander said on SEN 1170 Mornings.

“I don’t know why they thought they could change Nic Cotric into a centre.

“Nic’s a good winger, but he had a dreadful year at the Bulldogs trying to play centre, they might’ve tried to play him at fullback as well.

“He’s a better winger than a fullback as well, but he missed the jump this year.

“That would be a good pick up for the Eels, for sure.”

If the Eels don’t have to pay the majority of Cotric’s reported $600,000 a year salary Alexander views it as a big win for the contending club.

“Haze Dunster is a very good winger, but you need back up to replace ‘Fergo’ (Blake Ferguson),” Alexander

“I don’t know what the Dogs are thinking, I think they signed him for a lot of money compared to what he produced this year for the Bulldogs.

“So, the Dogs might be looking to clear up some cap space, there’s no way the Eels would sign him on whatever he is on at the Dogs.

“The Dogs would have to chip in … I think he’s on five or six hundred thousand (a year), so the Eels might get him at a bargain basement price.

“They might have to pay three hundred thousand, and the Dogs might have to chip in the rest.

“That would be a good signing for Parramatta.”

Cotric, 22, played 14 games for Cantebury in 2021 as the team slumped to a bottom placed finish on the NRL ladder.
