Jack Lonie’s career is at a crossroads after the small forward was delisted by St Kilda on Friday afternoon.
The 25-year-old played 11 games this season (two as an unused medical sub) but appeared on the outer in the back half of the season, not featuring for the club after Round 13.
He was understood to have received interest from a number of clubs last season, but chose to sign a one-year deal at the Saints.
It caps off seven seasons and 87 games for Lonie at St Kilda, who was drafted with pick 41 in the 2014 National Draft.
St Kilda list boss James Gallagher said Lonie had “earned the respect of his teammates during his time at the club.
“This was a really difficult decision to make,” Gallagher said in a club statement.
“A ‘dyed in the wool’ Saints fan as a kid, Jack grew up playing locally with Seaford and the Dandenong Stingrays and dreamed of pulling on the red, black and white in the AFL.
“Once drafted to St Kilda, he has never taken his AFL opportunity for granted and has played with a passion, enthusiasm and courage that earned him the respect and friendship of his teammates and warmed the hearts of our supporters and our legion of past players.
“He should be very proud of what he has achieved at St Kilda and we are very thankful for the seven years he has given to us.
“We wish Jack all the best for the next chapter of his life.”
Lonie will now hope to be signed by a new club as a delisted free agent.
