New Zealand born trainer Richard Litt has reflected on Saturday’s achievement when winning the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes with Profondo.
Bought for $1.9 million, the Arrowfield-bred colt was dominant under the guidance of Robbie Dolan, when overpowering Never Been Kissed to go on and win comfortably by two lengths.
Litt believes Saturday’s win could be the first of many at Group 1 level and that his stable are still “buzzing” off what was an epic victory.
“We’re all still buzzing my whole stable but obviously we have to get on with business now and look for the next winner,” Litt said on SENZ Breakfast.
“I was just relieved once he got past that post and he was in front.
“To do what he did was pretty special."
“It’s all go for Profondo!”

Litt decided to ignore his price tag as soon as he arrived at the stable, adopting a patient approach, a tactic that paid dividends on the weekend.
“Yeah absolutely, I think you just want them to be good because at the end of the day they don’t really know their price tag,” he added.
“We just put him in our system and forgot about his price tag, and just went through the motions until he popped his head up and told us how he was going and he didn’t do that until he started trialling.
‘To be honest, I wasn’t really convinced early but I knew he needed time and when we buy these expensive horses in Australia and New Zealand you expect them to jump out of the ground and run early as two-year-olds.
“We just took our time and that has been a good thing for him.”
Litt has decided to send his three-year-old to the paddock, with plans to bring him back in the Autumn forLi further Group 1 success.
