Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley has provided updates on two key players on the eve of the trade and free agency period.
Gun winger Jordan Dawson recently requested a trade back home to South Australia, nominating Adelaide as his club of choice.
Meanwhile, George Hewett is tipped to join Carlton as a restricted free agent.
See Harley’s detailed thoughts below:
Jordan Dawson
“It’s bitterly disappointing (to potentially lose him) as Jordan (Dawson) is a terrific person,” he said on Sportsday.
“He is a very, very, very good player and is an integral part of our future going forward.
“It’s interesting listening to the commentary; Jordan has requested a trade and is out of contract, he’s nominated a club.
“We’ve had early discussions with Adelaide, but it’s not a free agent situation so a fair and equitable trade will need to be done.
“We’ll have those conversations, here’s someone we rate really highly but from what I know of the contract we’ve put in front of him, our long-term offer is testament to the value that he’s got.”
George Hewett
“He has contributed significantly to our footy club,” he said.
“This is where a deep understanding of player movement is required; he’s a restricted free agent so the club has the right to match an offer.
“We’re expecting a healthy offer from a rival club, we have a respectful right to look at that. When we consider it, we need to look at a whole host of things.
“Things like the Jordan Dawson situation, the rival offer and the composition of our list – we think we have some really good young players in the midfield, so it’s not an easy one.
“We’ll play that one out in the fullness of time as well.”
