Crows list boss comments on Dawson, Lynch, Talia, Lukosius, Rankine and more

2021-09-29T08:57+10:00

Adelaide list manager Justin Reid has given some insight into a number of players ahead of the trade period.

The Crows are expected to land Jordan Dawson from Sydney after the 24-year-old requested a trade to the club.

Reid says conversations with the Swans are ongoing and more will be known once the trade period officially opens next week.

Asked on AFL Trade Radio’s Early Trade, what Dawson would be worth, Reid kept his cards close to his chest.

“We’ll have some chats with Sydney and work through that over the next fortnight,” said Reid.

“We’ll work through what’s fair and reasonable. The trade period doesn’t start until Monday so we’ll start those conversations more next week.

“We’ve certainly had preliminary conversations with Sydney. Kinnear Beatson and myself have had these chats.

“They’re obviously working on certain things themselves as well so we’ll pick up those conversations next week.”

Dawson had a breakout season with the Swans in 2021, operation primarily as a rebounding half-back.

Is that where he will play for the Crows?

“He’s got some flexibility. We’ve kept an eye on him since being drafted in 2015,” Reid added.

“We think centre-forward using his kick inside 50. So up through the wing, half-back, mid.

“It’s about getting him into the club and building relationships and cohesion. We’ve got a bit of work to do over the next fortnight but he’ll add to the group for sure.”

Reid was also asked about a number of other players from other clubs who may be of interest while commenting on current and departing Crows.

Jack Lukosius and Izak Rankine (Gold Coast)

“We always keep an eye on all South Australian talent.

“They’re contracted. They’ll see out those contracts and how things play out over the next 12 to 18 months, time will tell, but we’re certainly having conversations with various managers about players and how we can try and make our list stronger.”

Aaron Francis (Essendon)

“We’re respectful of contracted players.

“The focus and sole focus for us is Jordy Dawson in the trade period and then with a bit of a draft focus.

“You always have an open mind going into trade period, but we’re going to stick to our strategy in regards to our rebuild.”

Trent Dumont (North Melbourne)

“Trent is out of contract and I think he’s an unrestricted free agent.

“Those conversations or understanding where that sits is probably more post the trade period.”

Tom Lynch and Daniel Talia

“It’s always difficult. They’ve been champions of the football club and having those conversations are never easy.

“At the same time I guess we’ve got to have a holistic view. They’re the hardest decisions as a list manager to have those conversations with experienced players.

“We wish them all the best, Tom going to North Melbourne and I’m not sure what will happen with Daniel yet.

“They’re always welcome back at the Adelaide Football Club and they’ll be part of the fabric for a long time.”

Darcy Fogarty

“No questions that have come to myself.

“He’s just taken some time. He did a huge amount of work in the off-season last year. I think the foundations he has laid over the last 12 months, on and off the field, he goes about that again and takes it to another level this off-season, we’ll get some consistency and that performance we’re looking for.

“We’ve got huge faith in Darce. He’s a really loyal type of guy and we’re looking forward to what he can deliver into the future.”

Matt Crouch

“We’re certainly committed to Crouchy.

“Obviously it took a while just to work through his contract. He’s in our leadership group, he’s highly invested in Adelaide and the playing group.

“He’s been on the text message with regards to Jordy Dawson and other things we’re looking at with the draft with Hamish Ogilvie (recruiting manager).”

Taylor Walker

“He’ll be playing at the Adelaide Football Club next year. He’s determined to get inside the four walls and go about his business.

“He’s about improving and so are we as a football club.”

Reid reiterated that the club will focus on Dawson this trade period before prioritising the draft with “speed and power” through the midfield or forward of the ball high on the agenda.

He expects North Melbourne to use the first pick of the 2021 draft on South Adelaide young gun Jason Horne-Francis.
