SEN Chief Reporter Sam Edmund has provided the latest on where things sit as the 2021 trade period approaches.
Speaking on SEN’s Whateley, Edmund was asked a number of questions about players from listeners, pouring cold water on any potential moves for Essendon midfielder Dylan Shiel.
He gave the latest on where things sit with Tom Mitchell and the complicated unfolding story at Sydney.
Dylan Shiel (Essendon)
“A lot of people have asked questions about Dylan Shiel … he is definitely staying at Essendon.”
“There’s been some key meetings around Dylan Shiel this week. He wants to stay, they want to keep him.
“I think we can put a full stop on those rumours that are doing the rounds. He will stay, he is contracted at Essendon.”
Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn)
“It has been reported throughout the year that Mitchell is open to a trade … that’s actually correct. Hawthorn wants to keep him, I think it’s fair to say that should an offer come that’s too good to refuse, Hawthorn will consider it.”
“But it’s not in Hawthorn’s thinking at the moment that they’re going to reset under Sam Mitchell and trade out one of their key commodities in Tom Mitchell.
“If the planets were to align and a suitable offer came to Hawthorn, Tom Mitchell would be open to moving.”
Sydney
“Sydney is trying to re-sign Luke Parker, Dylan Stephens, Jordan Dawson, Sam Reid, Matthew Ling, Callum Sinclair, Hayden McLean, Ben Ronke and others.”
“Sam Wicks has a two-year offer on the table, hasn’t signed, Robbie Fox has a one-year offer on the table, hasn’t signed, Jordan Dawson told us here on SEN that Swans fans had nothing to worry about a couple of months ago, he hasn’t seen a contract that he likes at this point.
“Dylan Stephens, rival clubs have been asked if they’re interested in him because the two-year offer for him doesn’t have him doing cartwheels.
“Other clubs say that the Swans would be more open to Dylan Stephens leaving than perhaps most of the others. The Swans do want to keep him, but at this stage won’t be cracking the piggy bank to make it happen.
“George Hewett has been well paid, hence why he is a restricted free agent, we revealed he was on the trade table for a time last year, he is very likely to move this year and very likely to be at Carlton. Sydney has shown zero interest in re-signing him at this stage and that’s unlikely to change."
