Liam Pickering says it was a “unrealistic” proposition for Carlton to ask David Teague for feedback on the club’s review shortly before sacking him.
Teague and the Blues parted ways on Thursday after he was left in limbo for several days as the club weighed up the findings of the review, which they launched in June.
Pickering, who manages Teague, says keeping him in suspense was “a waste of three days”, saying his client was “obviously disappointed” at losing his job.
“I think it was unrealistic (to ask David Teague for feedback on the review) while they had made the decision to move him on,” he said on Off The Bench.
“It did seem like a waste of three days. I wasn’t in the meeting but I think it was just a discussion, he’s OK but obviously disappointed. Public sacking are never much fun.
“It’s been a tough couple of days, but players, friends and other coaches have reached out to him.”
Attention is quickly turning to who will replace Teague at Carlton, with Ross Lyon tipped to be the frontrunner to take over.
President Luke Sayers revealed in an interview on 3AW that he regularly speaks with former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley and Pickering said he would be a worthy candidate if he opts to participate in the process.
“Of course (Nathan Buckley would) be a good fit, he’s a 10-year coach and got a team to a Grand Final,” he said.
“Clearly he’s one of the best coaches around, if they do run a process then you’d be asking Buckley to participate in it.”
