Report: Adam Cerra makes contract call amid talk he's "run out of options"

2021-08-24T13:27+10:00

UPDATE

Adam Cerra has requested a trade back to Victoria, according to AFL Media's Mitch Cleary.

It brings to an end a drawn-out saga which has seen him spend months weighing up whether to stay at Fremantle or move back to his state.

SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund has revealed that Carlton is yet to formally speak to Adam Cerra as he continues to mull over his future.

The gun Fremantle midfielder is still yet to re-sign for next year, after having a multi-year deal tabled to his management months ago.

Edmund believes that Carlton’s pick six is almost certainly going to be central to any possible deal, but said “formal conversations” have yet to begin.

“Carlton has still not spoken to Adam Cerra,” he said on SEN’s Whateley.

“It may be extraordinary for some to hear, but there hasn’t been any formal conversations between the club and Adam Cerra.

“The Blues have indicated that they are prepared to cut a deal with Fremantle, but no formal conversations have taken place.

“That deal will start with Carlton’s pick six, which will slide back on draft night because of the father-sons at play, but that's the minimum and both sides acknowledge that.”

Edmund shed further light on Cerra’s options in the coming weeks, saying the market was cooling on him purely because of the continued uncertainty around contracts amid the COVID-affected cuts.

“What’s become clear is he’s run out of options, it’s the Blues or it’s bust,” he said.

“Other clubs who may have been interested just don’t have the draft capital. Richmond have the draft capital and I don’t believe they’re interested.

“He’s run out of options on what isn’t a seller’s market, everyone’s money is tight.

“The Blues will negotiate to get a deal done, but it hasn’t got to the point where they’ve sat down and spoken to Adam Cerra about coming back to Victoria.”
