Matthew Lloyd ranks the top seven AFL players still out of contract

2021-08-24T07:43+10:00

Matthew Lloyd has ranked his top seven players in the AFL who are still out of contract.

He has not based this on whether these players are gettable in the trade period. Simply on the fact that they are yet to be re-signed.

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury was the catalyst for the list, given the delays in his re-contracting at the Magpies.

“Some of these names, you would be staggered that they are yet to be re-signed,” Lloyd told Sportsday.

7. Scott Pendlebury (Collingwood)

“I’ll put Pendlebury at seven, but you know who just missed out? Robbie Gray.”

“But off the back of Pendlebury’s comments, I thought I’d put him at seven.”

When asked, Lloyd felt it was “unlikely” that the Collingwood captain is gettable, despite his comments.

6. Changkuoth Jiath (Hawthorn)

“I’m not sure why he’s not (been contracted yet), he wouldn’t cost you a lot, but why hasn’t he signed? Staggering.”

5. Jordan Dawson (Sydney)

“He was saying he wasn’t far off (re-signing) 10 weeks ago and I heard him speaking about this, but Jordan Dawson (is still unsigned).”

“A left footer, (can play) half back, wing, kicking goals now.”

4. Cameron Guthrie (Geelong)

“A best and fairest winner last year and had another good year.”

“I don’t know why he’s still not signed either.”

3. Luke Parker (Sydney)

“The heartbeat of the Sydney Swans, Luke Parker. He’s still not signed up.”

2. Adam Cerra (Fremantle)

“I think he’ll play for the Blues next year, Cerra.”

“He’s exactly the type of player Carlton needs to boost their midfield.”

1. Jacob Hopper (GWS)

“He’s the number one player I’d want playing for me (who’s out of contract).”

“Maybe the contracts at the Giants, he can’t get what he wants, but you wouldn’t want to lose him for his character and his football, I could see him captaining that footy club.

“Hopefully they can keep him.”
