Champion small forward Eddie Betts has scored some truly phenomenal goals over his stellar 17-year career at Carlton and Adelaide.
But one stands out above the rest.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Betts can’t go past his wonderful solo goal when playing for the Crows against GWS in 2016.
The sensational snap was awarded Goal of the Year – one of four times the 34-year-old has won the award.
“I have to say the GWS one, the Goal of the Year,” Betts told reporters.
“It was Sir Doug Nicholls Round at Adelaide Oval, and what was so special about that was my dad’s sister, auntie Susie Betts, designed the jersey. It was from the far west coast of South Australia in Port Lincoln.
“They (Adelaide) got her over, my grandmother over, my dad over from Port Lincoln. They set them up in a box and to kick that goal in Sir Doug Nicholls Round and to win Goal of the Year was unbelievable.
“That would be the best goal.”
Betts, a three-time All-Australian, will play his 350th and final game when Carlton meet GWS at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
The retiring Blues veteran has booted 638 AFL goals since debuting in 2005.
