“My news is good news”: Cunnington expecting a full recovery following tumour removal

2021-08-13T19:29+10:00

North Melbourne midfielder Ben Cunnington has released a statement saying his surgery has been successful and that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Cunnington revealed in July that he was undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous testicular tumour.

The Kangaroos star expects to be back playing at Arden Street in 2022 and has already returned to the club.

Read Cunnington’s statement via Instagram below:

Firstly, I want to thank all the people who have reached out or posted messages of support over the past few weeks to me and my family. It’s been an incredibly tough time but all the love and kindness certainly helped us through.

I also want to extend my thoughts and best wishes to Sam Docherty who is going through another battle.

Recently, I had successful surgery to remove a cancerous tumour and at this point in time, my news is good news and there will be limited, if any, ongoing treatment. But I have to remain vigilant over the next few years and have regular checkups to ensure the cancer doesn’t return.

I want to encourage anyone that suspects that something isn’t quite right with their body or health, to be brave and speak to a professional. Even if you think everything is fine, get a regular check and make sure.

Finally, I’ve been able to get back to Arden St and see the boys and help out at training, and will be looking forward to spending some more time with my family on the farm ahead of season 2022.
