Nick Riewoldt has called out Richmond defender Dylan Grimes for an elbow to the back of GWS forward Harry Himmelberg.
The contact resulted in a free kick and a goal to GWS, helping start the fire for what would be a dominant half of football.
Riewoldt hopes defenders get called out for incidents like it more often.
“As a forward, when your back is turned and you cop it in the middle of the back with an elbow like that, it gives you whiplash, it’s cheap, there’s nothing tough about that,” Riewoldt told Fox Footy.
“Grimes is better than it.”
Fellow key forward Jonathan Brown agreed, saying it was the kind of incident that could cause fights on the field.
“I hate that. I used to hate that when I was playing. It makes you want to turn around and go bang,” Brown said.
Garry Lyon believes the elbow was out of character for Grimes.
“It gives you an insight into where they’re at because that man Dylan Grimes’ is not normally doing that,” Lyon added.
