GWS have been unsuccessful in their bid to overturn Toby Greene’s suspension for striking Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield at the AFL Appeals Board on Thursday.
Greene, who had his two-match ban halved to one at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday, will miss Friday night’s crunch clash against Richmond at Marvel Stadium.
The star forward was rubbed out for a high elbow that made contact with Dangerfield’s throat.
Match Review Officer Michael Christian graded the incident as careless conduct, high impact and high contact.
The impact level of Greene’s fend was downgraded to medium at the Tribunal, but it wasn’t enough to fully overturn the two-match ban.
Greene, one of the Giants’ most important players, has kicked 41 goals in 16 matches this season.
