Former Carlton captain Marc Murphy will hang the boots up after his 300th and final game of football on the weekend against Port Adelaide.
As it comes to an end, the 34-year-old has reflected on his three favourite moments from his career.
Murphy never experienced the ultimate success as a player and only played in the two finals victories, both of which he remembers fondly.
On top of that, he looks to Kade Simpson’s 250th game, where the Blues pulled off a nail-biting upset win over Port Adelaide back in 2016.
“There’s probably a couple (of games that stand out). Playing in Kade Simpson’s 250th, we had a great win by under a kick I think and the emotion on Simmo’s face and everyone hugging each other out on the wing at Marvel Stadium in front of a big Carlton crowd, that was certainly a highlight,” Murphy told SEN’s Bob and Andy.
“Doing it for someone who gave their heart and soul for the footy club was great.
“I think probably the two finals against Essendon and Richmond.
“Against Essendon we had a huge win and I just remember the whole Southern Stand in the last quarter all singing the Carlton theme song.
“Especially against Essendon, who you’re taught to hate when you get to Carlton. (Stephen Kernahan) before the game in the rooms, I’ve never seen anymore more fired up than him and that was awesome.
“And then against Richmond when we were down by six goals and no one gave us a hope and to win that and the MCG was absolutely rocking.
“Those memories still get the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. That’s what you play footy for, to experience those moments in big games. Those are the ones I’ve got, but unfortunately we couldn’t go past that.
“They’re great to look back upon.”
From an individual perspective, Murphy captained Carlton between 2013 and 2018, won the club’s best and fairest in 2011 and 2017, made the 2011 All-Australian team and was the number one pick in the 2005 National Draft.
