Carlton has called an unscheduled board meeting for later this week where the key outcomes of the club’s review will be tabled, according to Sportsday co-host Sam McClure.
After a disappointing season on the field, the Blues have been conducting a wide-ranging review which will assess the positions of several key figures, including head coach David Teague.
McClure reports that the future of a number of people at Carlton will be decided at the board meeting on Thursday.
“There’s an unscheduled board meeting that will happen on Thursday where the board will discuss the review,” he revealed on Sportsday.
"The club will say the review isn’t done but it is, my gut feel is the board would’ve seen the outcomes of the review.
“On Thursday, there will be several positions that will be decided upon. As we sit here right now, I think David Teague will be the coach of Carlton for the rest of the season.”
Matthew Lloyd said that if the Blues do decide to seek an alternative senior coach, it was incumbent on them to ensure the decision didn’t leak before Teague himself was told.
He said Hawthorn’s last month – which saw legendary coach Alastair Clarkson’s departure at the end of the season leak before the official announcement – should serve as a cautionary tale for Carlton.
“Once you’ve made your decision…the last think David wants is the media finds out before he does,” he said.
“That’s an issue, when they’ve made their decision it just getsleaked. We’ve seen it at Hawthorn in the last few weeks, I think that would be the case with Carlton with all the decisions they’ve made.
“Rarely do they coach out the season but with two rounds left it wouldn’t matter and they probably need to get into the market. The sooner they get into the market the better.”
