Aron Baynes’ neck injury is reportedly worse than first thought.
According to Shams Charania from The Athletic, the nerve damage in Baynes’ neck is “severe” meaning he could be sidelined for the entire 2021/2022 NBA season.
The 34-year-old remains in hospital after injuring his neck in the locker room during the Boomers’ win Italy at the Tokyo Olympics.
Baynes missed the rest of the Games and didn’t feature in Australia’s historic win over Slovenia in the bronze medal playoff game on Saturday night.
The veteran centre is a free agent after he was waived by the Toronto Raptors entering the final year of a two-year contract.
Australia’s Aron Baynes was missing from the Boomers’ medal podium in Tokyo. Tough news: Sources say Baynes remains in the hospital with severe nerve damage in his neck, an injury more significant than initially diagnosed, and could miss the entire 2021-22 season.
