Hawthorn has withdrawn Conor Nash from its side to play Melbourne on Saturday night after it emerged he attended the Wallabies v France game at AAMI Park, which has since been classified as a COVID exposure site.
The club confirmed that he won’t take his place in the selection after he attended the event where a COVID-positive person was present.
"(Conor) Nash has been tested and received a negative result and is following the advice of the Victorian Department of Health,” the Hawthorn statement read.
“Hawthorn players and staff will continue to follow the advice of the AFL and Victorian Government to protect the competition and the broader community.”
Earlier on Saturday, the AFL confirmed that eight clubs have been caught up in the latest COVID chaos to grip the country, with all players and officials returning negative tests.
“Several players and staff members across the clubs – Collingwood, Essendon, GWS GIANTS, Hawthorn, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs either attended the Rugby match on Tuesday night or visited other listed exposure sites in Victoria – some of these players and staff are currently in Queensland,” the AFL statement read.
“The AFL has notified the Queensland Government and acting in accordance with their directions.
“Each person who has attended an exposure site has since been tested and all have received a negative test result.”
