Hawthorn fans would have been buoyed by what they saw on Friday night, particularly from their young crop.
The Hawks kicked away late to beat Sydney by 38 points, with a number of their young players standing up.
Garry Lyon believes a few of the club’s long-term magnets have fallen nicely into place.
“You can see some of the magnets falling into place that are going to be there (long-term). Changkuoth Jiath and Will Day off half back, CJ’s exciting and Day’s just going to be, mark my words, a leader of that footy club very quicky,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“Jack Scrimshaw is fitting in okay, they’ve got Denver Grainger-Barras who’s their top draft pick who’s going to be a beauty as well.
“I love Jacob Koschitzke up the other end, I know he’s a work in progress, but he’s leapfrogged passed Mitch Lewis and Tim O’Brien in a heartbeat.
“A couple of little pieces have just fallen into place for them.
“Tom Mitchell played a different role. He split midfield-forward in the first half 70-30 which he’s never done. His work in the forward half was selfless. He did a lot of blocking, his tackling was great.
“Some big ticks all-round there.
“Jai Newcombe coming into that side allowed them to play Tom Mitchell in a different role and that was great.”
Hawthorn now prepares to take on another young side in Essendon next Sunday afternoon.
