New board member situation an "optical nightmare" for Collingwood, Mark Korda

2021-05-20T11:20+10:00

Collingwood fans have taken to social media, angrily asking their newest board member Dr Bridie O’Donnell to explain a photo of herself in a Western Bulldogs guernsey.

The former international cyclist is a lifelong Magpies fan and was wearing the jumper in a show of support for AFLW and friend Susan Alberti, but that hasn’t stopped a tumultuous 24 hours for Collingwood.

Andy Maher believes it has turned into an “optical nightmare” for new president Mark Korda.

“The photo bobbing up right now is Bridie in a Bulldogs jumper,” Maher told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“It doesn’t matter at all because she grew up a Collingwood supporter. There’s a backstory to that and she’ll tell that story when she wants to.

“Now there’s been speculation about whether she should have been allowed to be voted onto the board and now we find out she can’t vote for another eight or nine months. It’s a shocking look.

“(She’s) a valuable acquisition to any organisation and this is a terrible look for the incumbent board at Collingwood right now.”

O’Donnell is not currently eligible for the Magpies director position until after the club’s Annual General Meeting given she has not been a member of the club for at least 24 months.

An exception in the rule allows for her to be elected to the board at the AGM.
