Eddie McGuire weighs in on potential Collingwood presidency spill

2021-05-20T07:12+10:00

Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has given his thoughts on the ongoing issues with the club’s board.

Jeff Browne is seemingly heading for an attempted spill of the board and to swiftly replace president Mark Korda.

McGuire, who would be a powerful figure for either side, said he supported the board, but would not get involved.

“I’m just going to say once for the record. I love the club. If I wanted to be the President I would have stayed on as the President. I'm out now, I'm done. Don't for a second think Jeff Browne needs me to hold his bag,” he told Footy Classified.

“If Jeff is going to do something, he is a very powerful, successful man.

“The board is there at the moment, they have my full support.

“These things just get out of control. Even the stuff today about the new board member Bridie O'Donnell, we’ve put people onto Collingwood’s (board) in my time who haven’t qualified for the two years because they were the right person at the time. You go to the AGM and it gets ratified.

“I think Mark told Gerard Whateley on SEN said that he and Jeff had met, so I’m not giving up any confidences there.

“They’ve met. Jeff wanted to come onto the board. Mark said that the process had finished.

“I think what will end up happening is that Mark and Jeff will have to sit down because they’re great Collingwood people and they have to work it out.

“If Jeff wants to go on with it and have a spill, I think it’s about 4,000 signatures. The voting at Collingwood is social club members, Club 5, 18-game members, etcetera and they will then have an EGM, that’s the situation.”
